NO NEW FRIENDS???

We are taught to value, love and trust the friends we have known the longest. I think I’m going to disagree and here is why. I can count on less then one hand people who I have stayed close to in the last several years. The ones I do have are older and more like big sisters or brothers. I have always had a load of mates older and a few younger. Drake sang on Dj Khaled’s track ‘No New Friends’… at the time I totally related and was chanting and hash-tagging that like my life depended on it, but I honestly feel differently now.
Over the last 12 months I have re-connected with a couple of people that I lost touch with who I met through my job that are awesome and great to be around.
I have also lost quite a few including 3 people I considered my best friends through circumstances, moving away and changing jobs. I have to be honest I felt really hurt by these people as I felt so close to them and couldn’t understand how we went from being besties to strangers liking the occasional comment or pic online?
It feels like a break up in some ways, I know that may sound dramatic but it’s totally how I felt. Sometimes I think how incredibly selfish people can be other times I hope they are sooooo caught up with their own pressures in life and goals that they don’t realise how much they are hurting you by their actions.
Recently I have been going through a lot of new more challenging situations and somehow have managed to connect with someone new through the blogging world. She is in someways totally the opposite to me but in other ways we are totally the same girl. Her heart and genuine energy has been lovely to be around and I feel like I have known her forever.

In the industry I work in I meet so many people with agendas and negative intentions, you almost expect the worse and put your guard up. This time I’m glad I didn’t and allowed a new friend in. I guess what I’m saying is be open to new energy and don’t be so judgemental. There are still a few good eggs out there and if you allow them in your life they can be great friends to share and experience new things with.
