OUR NEW CRUELLA IS……
17th February 2021
Cruella has been revamped for 2021 with Emma Stone playing De Vil, the main antagonist of Disney’s 1961 animated feature film 101 Dalmatians.
For those that need reminding, Cruella is a rich, fashion-obsessed heiress who wants to use the skins of 99 Dalmatian puppies to create a fur coat, yes scary bitch right!
An all-new live-action feature film about the rebellious early days of one of cinemas most notorious and fashionable villains. It’s set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets. One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute, played by two-time Oscar winner Emma Thompson (“Howards End,” “Sense & Sensibility”). But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella.
Disney’s “Cruella” is directed by Craig Gillespie (“I Tonya”) from a screenplay by Dana Fox and Tony McNamara, story by Aline Brosh McKenna and Kelly Marcel & Steve Zissis
This trailer suggests a much more complex, fun Cruella, the punk inspired look while the image below also of her with red hair and looking more girl next door. This time around that back-story to a young Cruella will have us understanding how and why she became the person she did. Emma Stone may not be the obvious choice when you think Cruella, in the past the great Glenn Close took on the role, but again Disney going the unconventional route might make it refreshing and less predictable. Also humanising Cruella is a great angle, I mean nobody is all bad right??
Cruella is out May 2021!
