THE LADIES OF HOLLYWOOD TALK ‘ME TOO’ MOVEMENT!

11th February 2021

Zendaya (‘Malcolm & Marie’), Kate Winslet (‘Ammonite’), Glenn Close (‘Hillbilly Elegy’), Vanessa Kirby (‘Pieces of a Woman’), Carey Mulligan (‘Promising Young Woman’) and Andra Day (‘The United States vs. Billie Holiday’) join Close Up With The Hollywood Reporter for our Actresses Roundtable.

Kate talks about the misconceptions of how glamorous the job is, while Zendaya talks about the business side of the industry. She shares how as a young actress you realise quite quickly it’s not just fun but also about making money and be very self-aware of all aspects of the industry. Film icon Glenn Close talks about this idea of ‘anyone can do it’ which she truly says is not true. The craft and aspect of learning and growing when telling a story at the heart to her long time successful career. Andra Day reveals how much work she had to put into playing Billie Holiday and explore acting while trying to get her voice right. Vanessa Kirby touches on the importance of female writers and that incredibly long ‘giving birth’ scene in ‘Pieces Of Woman alongside recently shooting the new Mission Impossible movie.

They also talks about how the ‘Me Too’ movement has made changes in Hollywood. The actions that were taken and how different the industry feels now especially for new actors coming into the game. Highlights include Kate throwing compliments Glenn’s way and Zendaya looking so grateful to be in a conversation with ladies she clearly admires.

The chat was super interesting and we love the choice of guests, lots of gems are shared.
