SCREAM FOR ME AGAIN SID….

Sidney Prescott is back! It is not a drill: Sidney Prescott is back!

Neve Campbell – the actress known mostly for her turn in the ‘90s horror classic “Scream” and it’s 3 sequels – has officially announced that she is returning to the franchise for the fifth installment/second reboot. Nearly a decade after ‘Scre4m’ (2011), the actress will once again run for her life with the iconic Ghostface on the chase after her. The success of rebooted Halloween – with Jamie Lee Curtis reprising her role from the original – had clearly instilled enough confidence in the movie execs to once again unleash another cult villain on a mission to kill his first stalked prey.

The original film is set in a fictional town of Woodsboro, following a high school student – Sidney Prescott (Campbell) – who is targeted by an unnamed serial killer in a Halloween costume (referred to as the ‘Ghostface’) who goes on a spree a year after the gruesome murder of her mother, Maureen Prescott. Inspired by the real-life case of a ‘Gainsville Ripper’, Scream redefined the slasher genre when it released in 1996 – its satirical approach to horrors, as well as playful mockery of stereotypes and clichés, full of red herrings, made it essentially a horror hybrid that combined black comedy and a ‘who dunnit’ . On top of that, with high school drama taking place amid all the violence and death, it ultimately gave birth to numerous shows from The CW and horror movies following a group of kids stalked by a psycho on the loose. The success of the film that did not take itself too seriously sparked 4 movies and a spin-off series from Netflix, but it all dates back to 1996 and the inception of one of the most intelligent movies among the cult classics – and yes, Scream is a cult classic, so don’t even @ us.

Directed by the master of horror, Wes Craven (‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’, ‘The Hills Have Eyes’, ‘The Last House on the Left’) and written by Kevin Williamson (‘The Following’, ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’, ‘The Vampire Diaries’, ‘Dawson’s Creek’), Scream became a commercial, as well as critical success. Look around, peeps – the Ghostface mask is everywhere! Each Halloween, you see it all over the shops, you see kids (as well as adults) wearing it. That costume is synonymous with Halloween time, alright! If you’ve never watched it, you will instantly feel certain familiarity – either because of the fact you were surrounded by the memorabilia or because it will poke fun at movies you like to watch over a Fright Night with your friends or partners. Also, the cast is outstanding! – Campbell (‘Wild Things’, ‘House of Cards’), Courtney Cox (yes, Monica from ‘Friends’!), David Arquette (‘Eight Legged Freaks’), Skeet Ulrich (‘Riverdale’, ‘As Good As It Gets’), Matthew Lillard (Shaggy from ‘Scooby-Doo’!), Rose McGowan (‘Charmed’), Liev Schreiber (‘Ray Donovan’, ‘Spotlight’)… And don’t even get us started on DREW FREAKING BARRYMOORE!

Seriously, Netflix-and-Chill it with your mates and try to resist the constant jump scares. Try and guess who dunnit? You got a year-and-a-half to catch up on the four features – and maybe on Netflix’s pretty fun TV Show too – so jump start that journey before all the scares start again.
