READY, STEADY POPCORN TIME!!

29th January 2017

I finally managed to get tickets to see Lion at my fav PictureHouse Cinema.
I went in knowing a little but I was more curious and excited to watch the movie. It’s an emotional true story based on Saroo Brierley. At age 5 he got lost from his family in India and went through such a rollercoaster of intense and frightening situations until he eventually ends up being adopted by a couple in Australia. You watch Saroo then go on a personal journey as an adult to find his family through the use of technology online. I found it both sad and inspiring, even felt teary eyed at moments. Congrats to Dev Patel who plays a tormented Saroo perfectly yet so very likeable and Nicole Kidman ( slightly distracted by the 80’s perm) was great as Saroo’s adopted mother in a supporting role.

The movie leaves you thinking about immigration especially at a time like this. If Saroo hadn’t been able to move to Australia I hate to think what a different story we may have been watching. It also reminds you being kind and looking after people less fortunate then you because of no fault of their own but economy and where they were born is something we all should want to do. I’m not saying everyone should adopt a refugee, but if you can help… why not? I guess what I would love to see more is as humans us looking after each other and caring just out of kindness. Trump is banning muslims from entering America at the moment and it’s so very sad and won’t sop terrorism and tragedy instead it will segregate people, create animosity and upset that will for some result as anger. Please care about our world around us and the people we share it with. We are so much stronger and happier together then fighting each other.
