Domestic violence in relationships is something a lot of women and men suffer in silence with, recently during Covid the cases have skyrocketed, so a film like ‘Donna, Stronger Than Pretty’ is incredibly important right now.
Director Jaret Martino wrote heartfelt personal story about his own mum who sadly is no longer here. A detailed look at how one woman ‘Donna’ can have her whole life slowly controlled and manipulated by falling in love with the wrong person. We see this ambitious, stunning young woman become a single mother, with a great support system including two female best friends that have her back still spiral into a life of unhappiness, abuse and shame.
What do you do when the one you love who you end up marrying and having children with abuses you mentally and physically?? Who do you turn to and how do you escape? Just some of the questions this film touched on, with an intimate look at all the stages ‘Donna’ has to experience before she has her moment of asking for help and finally her journey of self love and recovery. Featuring a cast of talented actresses including Catharine Daddario, Kate Amundsen and Brittany Molnar.
Sidenote: the styling and soundtrack is aesthetically distracting and uses that element to remind us all that is pretty isn’t always perfect.
