THE BOYS ARE ABOUT TO GET IT…

I adore sharing the latest films especially when they are independent and by badass females. Cue French Director/Writer the rather fearless and controversial Coralie Fargeat with ‘REVENGE’!
This lady has made a high voltage action packed, super violent, sexual and bloody gory movie. As I sat watching wondering what was about to explode next, wide eyed in shock but also total intrigue. I found myself feel a little envy that Coralie was so fearless in her approach to tell such a graphic almost uncensored story of rape, brutality and then all mighty revenge.
Here is a woman that has worked in the industry for a while and this was her big movie ( on an independent budget) took 2 years to release debut. A chance to impress and unleash her art, I think she quite literally killed it, in more ways than one.
I will not allow myself to find flaws, I don’t care that the heroine goes from bikini clad and bimbo to barefoot dripping in blood killing every man in shot, Yes yes… that’s not believable I hear you say, but who gives a shit??
I want to believe that we all can find the determination, strenght and in this case revenge to take back the power and control that we allow others to take from us especially as women.
Matilda Ann Ingrid Lutz plays Jen the perfect beautiful side chick who gets totally traumatised. Thank god she wakes up from the nightmare and not only survives her ordeal but ends up becoming the ultimate survivor. Leaving me thinking never judge a book by it’s cover or assume what anyone is capable of under real stress and pain. Matilda was so awesome in this role and has huge potential to be a much bigger name in the next few years in Hollywood given the right roles.
Why cant’ you be sexy and be a badass?
Often the debates around the meaning of being a ‘Feminists’ is so split. I have always seen it as women having the same opportunities in life and work as men, just being treated fairly. So when I hear things like ‘She can’t be a feminists ‘She is too sexy” ‘She is all about how she looks” ‘She is just a bimbo” I find myself thinking why can’t we be sexy and smart??
Jen is both, with the perfect abs and ass I have to admit. Some will watch the movie and think why is she in a bikini for almost the whole thing, but I guess why not should also be the question? I plan to ask the two ladies when I catch up with them next week.
Coralie also reverses the roles with men being sexualised a lot more in this film. You see the lead actor Kevin Jannsens exposed and vulnerable, which let’s face it is incredibly rare in films and TV ( porn doesn’t count… shush)
Here is what I think if you like being shocked and don’t mind a lot of blood and violence go see this film.
I hope it leaves you feeling a little more empowered to take charge in your own life and not get pushed in the corner like a victim.
