OLIVIA COLEMAN HONOURS CYNTHIA ERIVO AT SUNDANCE FESTIVAL!

27th January 2025

At this year’s Sundance Film Festival Gala, Olivia Colman brought her signature charm and humor while presenting Cynthia Erivo with the prestigious Sundance Visionary Award. In true Sundance fashion, Colman kept things playful, donning glitter and a Princess Tiana tiara that gave her speech an extra dose of fun. After making a few witty remarks about the festival’s laid-back vibe, she left the tiara on the podium as a little surprise.

When Erivo came up to accept the award, she spotted the tiara, laughed, and immediately put it on. “It must be worn. That’s the point of it,” she declared, earning cheers from the audience. In her heartfelt acceptance speech, she reflected on what it means to be a visionary—not just having a dream, but believing in it so strongly that you take step after step, no matter how daunting the path may seem. She dedicated the award to “ambitious dreamers” who keep pushing forward, even when they don’t know exactly where the road will lead.

The evening had other powerful moments too. Michelle Satter, who founded the Sundance Directors and Screenwriters Lab, spoke about the resilience of community, especially after she recently lost her home in the Palisades wildfires. Director James Mangold, who received the Trailblazer Award, used his speech to celebrate sincerity in filmmaking, saying, “In this time of irony and snark, we need earnestness more than ever.” Wrapping up the night, Sara Bareilles gave a stunning performance, debuting a new song and delivering a heartfelt rendition of “She Used to Be Mine.” It was a night full of inspiration, laughter, and that special Sundance magic.
