MICHAELA COEL’S ‘I MAY DESTROY YOU’ SNUBBED BY THE GOLDEN GLOBES!

3rd February 2021

Taraji P. Henson and Sarah Jessica Parker announced the 2021 Golden Globe Award nominations today virtually!

Congrats to ‘The Crown’ on their six nominations and to our surprise ‘Mank’ also up for the same amount including ‘Best Picture’ (Drama) and Best Director for David Fincher. The ladies in the past have often been forgotten in the category of Best Director but not this time Regina King, Chloé Zhao and Emerald Fennell have all been included.

Best Actress category is super tight with all the right people nominated, Viola Davis, (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), Frances McDormand, (Nomadland), Carey Mulligan, (Promising Young Woman)(, Andra Day, The United States vs. Billie Holiday) and Vanessa Kirby, (Pieces of a Woman).

To our shock ‘I May Destroy You’ which was without doubt one of the stand-out TV series to hit our screens in 2020 has totally been snubbed. It didn’t receive any nomination which truly makes no sense!! Michaela Coel created something so original and powerful that people all over the world related and fell head over heels in love with her writing and acting- critics adored it and the public too!

Also what happened to Spike Lee’s hard-hitting Netflix film ‘Da 5 Bloods’, such powerful performances from the late Chadwick Boseman and Delroy Lindo. How did James Corden get nominated in Best Actor in a Comedy for ‘The Prom’??? He wasn’t great in it, yet co-star Meryl Streep who held it together got nothing???

The Golden Globes are voted on by a group of 89 international journalists, we would love to sit down with them over Zoom and get some answers to what the hell they were thinking! Full list is below, let us know what you think.
