‘LOCKED DOWN’ STARRING ANNE HATHAWAY & CHIWETEL EJIOFER!

We have had ‘SongBird’ literally showing the world in a total mess with the virus mutating and people being taken away to be killed. We have also had a gang of friends summoning an evil spirit through zoom courtesy of British horror ‘Host also inspired by the pandemic’! Well now we have a beautiful, dark, comedy starring Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofer in ‘Locked Down’.
The story follows a dysfunctional married couple Linda and Paxton living in London during the pandemic. They are no longer together, have separate rooms but are stuck due to quarantine. This was filmed last Summer in the heat of lockdown so it’s incredibly timely and brilliantly written by Steven Knight. Every little touch from the ‘Clap for the NHS’ moment, the queuing up with your mask on at the supermarket while slowly going insane at home wanting any form of escapism, all things we will all smile and think ‘yes spot on’. Paxton is having a personal crisis reciting poetry weekly to the other residents in lockdown while standing in the street.
He is a delivery driver, a job he hates and is stuck doing due to an assault arrest 10 years ago While Linda is a C.E.O of a major international fashion company, a job that has her making a lot of money but working with a lot of shitty people.
The zoom meetings she has with her boss which happens to be a certain Ben Stiller are brilliantly executed, so sarcastically funny with the added pleasure of seeing her dressed up just up to the waist, while the bottom half, yes you guessed it in Pjs and jogging bottoms ( Oh how we relate). Anne Hathaway is fantastic in this, I can honestly say I don’t think I have seen this side of her on screen before edgy, dark humour, while incredibly sharp and funny.
Due to stores being shut down there are a limited number of drivers available for high-value deliveries, so Paxton’s boss reaches out and asks him to make runs under a false identity. Yes here is where the trouble starts, Linda, who is a CEO at a fashion company, is tasked with clearing out inventory at a nearby Harrods department store. The pair soon realize their delivery schedules at the store overlap, and Paxton would not get past the security checkpoint Linda has set up. So what do you? Come on they have been in lockdown going mad drinking wine, smoking and just about surviving, you decide to steal a £3 million diamond of course. The plot they make is hilarious and honestly you will keep thinking there is no way they will get away with it, with so many twists and turns. I loved ‘Locked Down’ , a very unexpected surprise that I didn’t realise I needed. strangely comforting seeing other reasonably normal people slowly go a little crazy and start to do the most random things for pleasure and escapism.
Look out for cameos from some awesome people and enjoy ‘Locked Down’ it’s out on HBO MAX now!
