EMILIA PEREZ LEADS OSCAR NOMINATIONS WITH 13!
23rd January 2025
Let’s talk Oscars 2025—it’s wild out here this year! The biggest headline? Emilia Pérez absolutely dominating with 13 nominations, making history as the most-nominated non-English language film ever. It’s also a huge moment for Karla Sofía Gascón, who’s up for Best Actress as the first openly trans actor in the category. Talk about groundbreaking.
Right behind it, The Brutalist and Wicked are tied with 10 nominations each. From stunning visuals to powerhouse performances, both films have clearly struck a chord with the Academy. In the acting categories, Timothée Chalamet picked up a nod for transforming into Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, and Sebastian Stan is making waves with his performance as Donald Trump in The Apprentice. Yep, you read that right—Trump on the Oscars stage.
But hey, no Oscar season is complete without some curveballs. Daniel Craig being snubbed for Queer? Ouch. And Selena Gomez missing out for Emilia Pérez shocked a lot of people. On the flip side, Monica Barbaro snagging a surprise nomination for A Complete Unknown has people talking. Love it or hate it, the Oscars know how to keep us on edge.
This year’s ceremony, happening March 2 at the Dolby Theatre, is going to feel a bit different. With the devastating Southern California fires looming in the background, the season’s been quieter than usual. But Conan O’Brien is hosting (should be hilarious), and the show’s dedicating some time to honor frontline workers and support relief efforts. So, yeah, it’s not just about the glamour—it’s a night with some real heart this time around.
