CLARE DUNNE WRITES ‘HERSELF’ AND TAKES HER POWER BACK!
23rd August 2021
Single-mother Sandra (Clare Dunne) escapes her abusive partner with her two young children, only to find herself trapped in temporary accommodation. After months of struggling, she decides to self-build an affordable home, but rebuilding a life from the ground up cannot be done alone.
‘Herself’ was a passion project for actress and screen writer Clare Dunne. She decided to put her talents into writing a story that would influence, educate and also give her creative control over her own work in the industry. Clare teams up with the awesome Phyllida Lloyd and fellow actress Harriet Walter on the film that will have you feeling a mixture of emotions. The story was inspired by a close friends of Clare who was homeless for a time but it’s been developed into so much more, with the tough topic of physical abuse in a relationship and how a person escapes that and tried to re-build their entire life with kindness from a friend.
Check out more on the film from Clare below in our chat, she is incredibly candid about her personal journey in the industry and hopes for the future. It’s out in September in U.K cinemas.
