I’m excited to be teaming up with Body Silk Clinic in a series of features around beauty treaments. It’s an area I’m fascinated with but don’t really know enough about. What are the right treatments and lotions we should be using? Also how do we know we are not just being sucked into buying everything to look perfect just by great marketing PR?? Well I plan to share all I learn with you beautiful people, hopefully resulting in feeling and looking healthier just in time for Summer.
Let me start by sharing my own relationship with skincare. In my late teens I loved mascara, eye liner and late nights. It’s fair to say I haven’t always washed my face full of cake properly from nights out and I would wake up with panda eyes many mornings. I am good at moisturising however, I do it as much as possible, but I’m not so brillant with toner, eye cream etc?? Do we really need is all or are we just being sold stuff?
Sometimes I feel we get sucked into spending so much to look and feel beautiful. We buy a cream for a cream, a foundation with three others similar things to give it that flawless look.
Here are my “Go To Skincare” tips!
1 Always take your make up off at the end of the day. Don’t just use wet wipes like I used to. You need to wash your face and neck fully with a good anti bacterial face wash or soapy water.
2 Invest in a great overnight cream like Decleor renewal. My mate CJ has incredible skin and shared the secret. Or grab some Palmers Coco Butter it’s a couple of quid and has always been good for my skin.
3 Yes I’m about to say the obvious thing drink lots of water. If like me you forget and find it difficult. Carry a bottle around with you, that holds at least 1 litre when it’s finished top it up. Remember try to drink a minimum of 2 litres a day. Also I have started drinking hot water with a slice of lemon 3 to 4 cups a day, it’s got a fresh taste and I feel like it cleansing me a little.
5 Treat yourself to a great facial like the LPG Facelift ( it’s natural, don’t freak out, no form of surgery) I had it today with Body Silk Clinic. It totally replenished by skin and made me feel wonderful for the 60 min I was laid out like a little Princess in a headband. They do loads of other facials and beauty treatments that might suit your budget and your needs better. Have a consultation with them first, I found them very lovely and patient with my many ‘Max’ questions!
My Therapist not only did the treatment today but also advised me on how to look after my skin better and what type of moisturiser I should be using. It was a real eye opener for me learning more about my skin and tailor my beauty regime to it. I’m like the rest of you and feel insecure at times with my skin and body, part of the reason I enjoyed the treatments I’m trying at Body Silk is because of the way they made me feel and looked after me. I literally felt comfotable with the Therapists and really spoilt. I can’t recommend this place enough if you live in London and if you don’t hit up there website to learn more.
You can also have a beauty day once a week at home. Grab a mud mask or a great scrub. I love the Aloe Vera one which you can get in most places like Boots and Superdrug. Grab a couple of slices of cucumber for your puffy eyes and put on an overnight leave in hair treatment. My friends love Philip Kingsley I think it’s a little expensive so I use coconut Palmers oil or lovely Morrocan oil. It feels greasy as hell but when you wake up and wash it out I literally feel like Nicole Scherzinger in those Herbal Essences adverts.
I think the one thing I’m finding that is great for my skin is wearing less make up and having days when my skin is just clean and makeup free. I know that’s not always easy and also insecurity makes us want coverage. I would suggest keep it light with a little mascara and leave the shadow, contouring, bronzer and all that extra concealer for concealer alone. I do that probably most days and then when I’m going out or doing a shoot for my blog I still have fun with full make up and lashes.
I plan to keep a diary on my blog and also on my Instagram stories on my LPG facial treatments that I’m having. It’s recommended to have 10 sessions with 2 days a part each week to really see a change. I’m so excited to share my experience with you and Anna who runs the clinic has very kindly answered some questions that I thought you might want to know.
Me What exactly is an LPG Facelift? Is it cosmetic surgery?
Anna: It is a mechanical stimulation of the skin tissue for face, neck and décolletage. It would be fair to say that is is an exercise for the tissue. We can exercise muscle, but not the tissue, so mechanical stimulation by the LPG device does exactly it. A course of 10 sessions 2-3 times a week is recommended for best results. Tissue ( like muscles) has “memory”. Although the results are visible after one session and lasts 72 hours, it is recommended to have a course of treatments to achieve long term effect. In other words it is important to repeat to the tissue a certain number of times what we want it to be.
Me: What are the benefits? Suitable for what skin type?
Anna: Suitable for all all types of skin. Anti-ageing effect; Stimulation of collagen production; Beneficial for blood and lymph circulation; Helping sagging facial tissue; Tightening of the tissue; Detoxification effect.
Me : Recommendations on how to look after skin before and after treatment?
Anna : There is no downtime after the treatment. Since the treatment stimulates the lymphatic system, it is good to drink plenty of water during the day to help the body detox.
The use of vitamin E and C serum, followed by application of SPF 50 (sun protection) cream is recommended to prevent skin damage and neutralise free radicals that are the primary cause of ageing. The recommended maintenance is once or twice a month. Skin is a live organ. It is also the biggest organ of the body that often reflects the health inside, so it is important to stick to a balanced, predominantly, vegetarian and especially greens diet, drink plenty of clean water and exercise regularly.
Me: Any side affects?
Anna: You may notice that after the treatment, your trips to the bathroom will be more frequent. This is due to the detoxification effect of the treatment that stimulates your lymph.
Me: Long term benefits?
Anna: The treatment is non-surgical non-invasive and has a beneficial anti ageing effect on the facial skin tissue, as well as the blood and lymph circulation. An excellent alternative to those who are not keen on skin treatments with injectables, such as Botox and dermal fillers, or surgical face lift.
Thanks to Anna for all the info, it’ sooooo important to do your research and not get duped into paying for something that truly doesn’t make you feel and look amazing. Manicures, pedicures, facials, waxing and even massages are all great and can enhance you phsically but don’t forget to look after your inside. Your heart and soul too is just as much of your beauty as your face and hot bod.
It might sound cringey but there is no point having the perect body and face but having an unhealthy yucky inside. Anna inspired me to think about the way I eat and look after myself more then in just a superficial way. Hit up my Instagram stories :Instagram.com/ThisIsMax to see my treatment today.
