After Life, the critically acclaimed comedy-drama created by and starring Ricky Gervais returned for its final series with six new episodes.
Set in the small fictitious town of Tambury, the show follows Tony, a writer for the local newspaper whose life is upended after his wife dies from cancer. Whilst still struggling with immense grief for his wife, Tony starts to realise that making other people feel good is what can give him hope and a reason to live. After all, every end is a new beginning.
This series has touched so many people especially now with the difficult Covid times we have all had to endure. The use of humour while tackling tough subject matters including loss, mental health and loneliness is so beautifully and subtly executed. Ricky Gervais has put his heart on his sleeve and made his best work yet. Exploring human emotions in such an honest uncomfortable but incredible necessary way, you can’t help but feel invested in Tony’s recovery and all the faces that surround him at work alongside his loyal bestie at home Alfi his pet dog.. The show has used the backstory with so much heart and creativity that you feel Tony’s loss so deeply and what a special force his wife Lisa was!
The supporting cast is superb, joining Ricky is Penelope Wilton, Diana Morgan, Mandeep Dhillon, Tom Basden, Kerry Godliman, Tony Way, David Bradley and Jo Hartley. highly recommend you check series 1 2 and 3 streaming over on Netflix now!
