LEARNING TO LOVE AND LOOK AFTER MY SKIN…..
11th April 2017
I wanted to learn more about beauty and all these amazingly complicated and sometimes expensive treatments I read about and see people on my timeline talk about. The lovely ladies at Body Silk Clinic in London kindly said yes to me popping my beauty treatment cherry with them!
What I have realised matters a lot to me is feeling comfortable with where I go and who treats me. The two different Therapists I have had my treatments with have both been extremely kind, helpful and welcoming. I don’t have the worse skin in the world but defo don’t have the best either.
If I’m honest I have spent several years of not wearing enough sunblock and looking after my skin. When you are darker skinned you almost think you are immune to the sun and don’t need to protect yourself as much as your friends with much fairer skin. This is a myth and we all need to use sunblock in our every day moisturiser and defiantly when we are on holiday out in hot sun.
Our skin needs house keeping too, trying out the LPG facial has totally had me learning about prevention rather then cure. We all wait till the problem hits us before we take time to prevent it from landing on us. This doesn’t just apply to our skin, but also our mind, body and heart.
The LPG facial is like a facelift but WITHOUT any surgery. It’s a process of massages that stimulate the natural collagen in our skin to look plumper and healthier. It’s early days for me to see extreme changes, as the recommendation is 10 sessions with 2 a week.
I can say this though, my skin feels fresher and more rosy in complexion already. Also the process has left me feeling more empowered to cleanse, tone and moisturise which naturally will lead to me having better skin. The therapists at Body Silk Clinic are becoming my teachers in skincare….loving it. I hope they don’t get fed up of my many questions. For more on the LPG facial check out this piece with Anna the owner of the clinic, she answers everything you could possibly want to know.
I have also tried out a few new products this week including this gel/oil cleanser by Glowbiotics. I loved how this felt on my skin and how it got rid of any hint of make up. I researched the brand as it was the first I had heard of it and learnt they have a whole load of great products. I really want to try a few more including the hydrating and brightening treatment creams they do. I will give you my reviews on how I get on.
The thing I’m learning mostly when it comes to beauty is drink lots of water, eat well and clean your skin properly. I know what our mums, aunties and big sisters have told us for years. Also have a make-up free day, or wear a little tinted moisturiser if you feel you need the coverage. It’s hard as hell I know, as I love make up too but it has become an armour for most of us. Let your skin breath and don’t be scared of what you look like naturally now and then.
