‘THE OAK ROOM’ TAKES YA ON A DARK RIDE!
24th April 2021
“The Oak Room” stars Breaking Bad’s very own RJ Mitte, in this dark suspense thriller.
The film is based on a stage play so expect a small intimate cast with a lot of focus on intricate storytelling dialogue. It’s cleverly executed by Canadian indie director Cody Calahan. A man that alongside his production house “Black Fawn” has taken on the challenge to adapt this story to the big screen. The cast are stellar, Ari Millen, Peter Outerbridge, Nicholas Campbell and Martin Roach join Mitte, truly no weak links to speak off instead actors that can hold your attention in the smallest spaces. The sound, visuals and drawn out conversations are fun to watch, while you follow the story unfold. Who is the bad guy and what are they running from? There is no solid one answer to any of those questions as all 5 characters how dark sides with trauma attached. Cody was nervous and equally excited to take on the challenge and wrote personal heartfelt emails to each cast member expressing why he wanted them to be in it and his motivation to make it.
There is also a deeper underline side to the narrative, men that have lost touch with each other, a father and a son that are dysfunctional wishing for a better relationship. You also feel empathy for characters that are so flawed in so many ways, it’s a reminder nobody is all good or bad.
