“It’s really hard to articulate what success is, when it happens it’s like so mind blowing and life altering that you can’t really get any perspective on it.
“I feel like it’s going to take five years to process this, it’s like a realisation of a dream. Ever since I was twelve, thirteen I wanted to direct films and it’s taken to now to get one that breaks through and everyone wants to talk about. It’s incredible.”
Director Tim Wardle is clearly overwhelmed and so very grateful that the story he and his team have told has been received so well. Three Identical Strangers is out this weekend all across the UK and I would love you to go out and support it.
Eddy Galland, David Kellman and Robert Shafran are three brothers who are separated at birth and re-connect as adults by chance. The story unfolds with shocking, heartbreaking and possibly criminal offences done to them as kids.
Why did they get separated?
How did no one now?
Who is to blame?
Will Tim and his team find the people to blame?
Will the brothers be o?
Nature vs Nurture?
How hard was it to mae this?
Did Tim want to give up at any point?
What else goes on that we have no idea about?
Are Documentaries the new entertainment?
These were just some of the questions I found myself asking during the film and after. We are living in a time now where a real story told through a documentary style is just as gripping, thought-provoking and entertaining as a traditional film. I actually think they are often better in some cases, due to the narrative actually being truthful.
It creates an edge and also as a viewer more intrigue and connection with the people affected I find.
“I spent my whole career looking for a story that was big enough to justify sticking it in a cinema and charging people money to come and see it in the dark” says Tim, he continues..
“Half the time with documentaries you know I go to film festivals and I watch documentaries at film festivals and I think well this is just a TV film that has been stretched out.
“This one, however, has an incredible human interest story at its heart, a real tabloid story of these brothers separated and reunited, but it also enables you to ask these much bigger philosophical questions about nature vs nature, destiny, free will and why we are who we are.
“So it worked on these different level, and when I saw it I was like I have to make this film because it’s the best documentary story I have ever come across and works on this multiple layers.
