DISNEY + is throwing back to cult classics!
29th March 2020
Disney could not have imagined a better timing for its new streaming service and, as horrible as it sounds, ain’t that the truth??
Coinciding with the massive, almost a worldwide quarantine, the launch of Disney+ gives all of us a chance to familiarize ourselves with its catalogue for 7 trial days before even purchasing it, so what are we all waiting for? Whether it’s the classic animations, the new TV shows, Star Wars franchise, Pixar’s greatest, Marvel’s heroes or even Nickelodeon offering, Disney+ seems to have something for just about anyone.
Get yourself a bowl of spaghetti, and a loved one to share it with, because you can now both watch Lady and the Tramp or maybe you just wanna Hakuna Matata this Disney+ thing with the ‘Lion King’? Sit on a carpet and let ‘Aladdin’ take you for a wild trip? Dance while ‘The Beauty and the Beast’ is playing in the background? Hold your fingers crossed for Ariel and a happy ending for her sad tale? Follow Mowgli across the jungle and face Sher-Kan in ‘The Jungle Book’? If the shoe fits (*cough* *cough* Cinderella), then all of these classics are available to you on Disney+ alongside new reworked versions.
If you’re not familiar with the Baby Yoda memes yet, you’re not doing the internet thing right. The online sensation – now, also, an absolutely purchasable plushie – has its roots in this epic television series, which is essentially a cool, old school, classic Star Wars set in a western-type-of-world, full of original creatures, drama, action, charming humor and a dash of razzle-dazzle. Whether you wanna watch it yourself, stream it with your favorite niece/nephew or do a family binging, this is a perfect show that will help you bond and won’t be too complicated to follow, while still thrilling you and making you ask for more.
High School Musical
Whether you missed it – or just simply miss it – the High School Musical is here for you. Coming to your home theatre from the times where Zac Efron wasn’t a bulky, hunky big screen hot shot, but a sweet and innocent looking high school heartthrob, this one is an absolute classic for all ages co-starrring Vanessa Hudgens. Tune in – pun definitely intended – and it won’t be long before you will be singing along, Goooooo…. Wildcats!!
For all the fans all the future fans, you have Toy Story, Cars, Ice Age, The Incredibles and Monsters Inc. You still want to be productive? Sometimes, it’s just good to “Let It Go” and watch ‘Frozen’ instead. Unwind a bit and dive into the world of fairy tales with ‘Tangled’. Something more playful and childlike? Look no further – ‘Moana’, ‘Big Hero 6’ and ‘Lilo & Stitch’ are here. Find Nemo or Dory! Oh, and don’t be shy, go and cry – Disney has ‘Up’ and ‘Upside Down’!
Marvel Cinematic Universe
This one should be self-explanatory, because you did not live underground and definitely have seen that there is EVERYTHING Avenger’s-related, plus all of your friends and family (and, quite possibly, you) who are between the ages 6 and 39 have talked about it – and anyone who is 40+ was unsure if it’s lame for them to also follow it and bring it up (nope, it ain’t, go ahead – we all get to have an opinion on these Marvel movies!). Iron Man. The Incredible Hulk. Thor. Captain America. Ant-Man. Doctor Strange. Captain Marvel. Should I go on? Even X-Men are available! Naturally, no Spider-Man -(sorry, Sony owns that!), but most importantly – the entire Avengers saga, from numero uno, culminating in ‘Endgame’, is available. It’s been really hard to catch up with them if you didn’t follow it from the start, because the entire thing’s been an 11-year-long process that started in 2008, but now that you gotta stay home, it’s just the most opportune moment to finally see what’s all that buzz about – finally, you too (no matter your age), can have an opinion!
In the galaxy not so far, far away… Disney’s letting you embark on this epic odyssey and relive – or familiarize yourself – with one of the biggest things that had ever graced our world. Movies, video games, toys, board games, comic books, magazines, TV shows – if it exists, it probably has a Star Wars version. Start with the classic saga – New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi – or watch it chronologically: Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith and then follow with the old saga. After those six, catch the reboot – The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Hell, squeeze in some Rogue one in between Episode III and IV. When you finish, consume a prequel, ‘Solo’. Bonus: especially for the youngest ones, there are animations! Star Wars Rebels, Lego Star Wars, The Clone Wars, Phineas and Ferb Star Wars!
Disney isn’t just about franchises – remember the Titans, Avatar, Pirates of the Caribbean, live-action remakes of the classic animations (Lion King, Dumbo, Maleficent, Aladdin, Jungle Book, etc.), Mary Poppins, The Parent Trap. Seriously, the list goes on and on. Disney+ is more than just what you associate with the Mickey Mouse and the company – it is a well thought-through service that can keep you occupied for hours, days, weeks, months, years. The catalogue is so big that it is really hard to imagine anyone getting through it… dare I say, ever?? Go ahead, check it out – use that 7 day trial and find out if it has anything for you….SPOILER ALERT: It freaking does!
